Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL)

The Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock was established in 2016, and is one of four Agri-Tech Innovation Centres established with financial support by the UK government.

CIEL’s main aim is to provide a focused gateway to a core of 12 world class research institutes across the UK, to deliver solutions for challenges being faced by the livestock industry. The network will also encompass a number of commercial farms that will offer the means to trail the solutions being developed in commercial environments. Its establishment was supported by £29M of funding from the UK government which has allowed the research capability across the 12 core institutes to be further strengthened through the addition of a number of world-class facilities.

With substantial investments being made to establish a new Large Animal Imaging Facility at the Roslin Institute, and a new Poultry Research Facility at SRUC, Easter Bush will form one of the main research hubs for the Centre.
