Eggcellent Proteins breakthrough gets BBC coverage
Roslin Technologies’ Dr Lissa Herron, our Avian Biopharming Business Unit Head, has been showcasing groundbreaking transgenic chicken technology to the BBC.
Our Eggcellent Proteins unit eggcellentproteins.com, which is commercialising the cutting edge research of Prof. Helen Sang at the Roslin Institute, exploits the ability to modify genes in chickens so that they express high levels of target proteins in their egg whites. Our current protein catalogue is designed for research use to study a number of important diseases of animals and humans. A key advantage of the Eggcellent Protein system is that the production process could be considerably cheaper than mammalian expression for making proteins, helping make medicines more widely available in future, BBC science correspondent Pallab Ghosh, found out.
