Investor engagement
Roslin Technologies’ current investors have been instrumental in supporting the growth of the business from its launch in 2016. The original investors continue to have an active involvement in Roslin Technologies today. JBI Equity, the original architects of the commercial ag-tech company concept, and Milltrust, the providers of £10m Series A capital in 2017 through the British Innovation Fund, represent 50% of the company’s equity holdings today. The University of Edinburgh represent the other 50% of the Company, and together with JBI and Milltrust form the current Board of Roslin Technologies which is led by an Independent Chairman.
The company has ambitions plans and a compelling pipeline of projects to build its portfolio over the next growth phase. New Capital will be sought to fuel this growth pipeline, providing an opportunity for other investors to participate in the exciting growth journey of one of the largest Ag-tech start-ups in Europe. Roslin Technologies was nominated in 2019 in the High Growth category in the Scottish Annual Life Science Industry awards, and is expected to continue on a fast growth journey. Recent portfolio investments in the fast-growing insect sector and veterinary diagnostics underline its ambition to create a high-growth ag-tech portfolio of exciting projects that utilise the best technology and innovations to bridge between science and the market.
academic engagement
Roslin Technologies works with academics using a variety of models; from direct funding for early pipeline projects to leverage and joint funding ventures for feasibility and development studies.
Dr. Karen Fairlie-Clarke has a background in molecular biology, parasitology and immunology. Her role is to engage with academics to identify and support projects suitable for technology transfer and commercialisation through Roslin Technologies’ development pipeline.
Early Stage Research
Roslin Technologies can support and partner projects by direct investment, including leverage funding via research grant applications.
We currently support projects in the following areas:
– Cell biology, including animal stem cells and gene editing
– Vaccinology
– Diagnostic test development
– Bespoke breeding programmes for enhanced livestock production
– Animal nutrition
As an UK based SME, we are also eligible for UKRI and other funding body submissions.

We currently have strategic partnerships in conjunction with BBSRC funding to develop a vaccine delivery vehicle for sheep and improve aquaculture production systems.
We are also working on a variety of stem cell projects with academic partners.
