Roslin Technologies signs collaboration agreement to develop E. coli vaccine
We are delighted to announce that we have signed an agreement to support the commercial development of an E. coli 0157:H7 vaccine for cattle, a step that’s vital in preventing this life-threatening illness being passed onto humans.
The collaboration agreement is with Moredun Research Institute, Scotland’s Rural College and the Roslin Institute, all located in close proximity to our site at Edinburgh University’s Easter Bush campus. The project team is led by our CTO, Prof. Jacqui Matthews, with significant input from the Principal Investigators, Prof. David Gally of the Roslin Institute and Dr Tom McNeilly from Moredun Research Institute.
Ensuring a safe and sustainable food chain through promoting animal health is a core principle of our work at Roslin Technologies. E. coli, while relatively harmless in cattle, can be passed onto humans through contaminated food products and can be lethal. Suppressing its prevalence amongst cattle limits the ability for the bacteria to enter the human food chain.
