Rising Stars: High Growth Award finalists at the 2021 Scotland’s Life Sciences Awards
The annual Scotland’s Life Sciences Awards bring together the life science community to celebrate success and highlight the innovation, collaboration, and talent across the sector. The first Virtual Awards Ceremony is being held on the 24th March – and we have our fingers crossed! Roslin Tech are one of three finalists for the Rising Stars: High Growth Award, joined by BioAscent Discovery and BioClavis.
Being nominated – and shortlisted – for the award highlights the significant growth Roslin Tech has undergone in the last year. Our transformational and commercial solutions aim to address global challenges across different sectors. From our induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell lines which can be used in the Cultivated Meat and Animal Health industries, to our breeding programs focused on the Traditional Meat and Insect Protein markets, our development strategy is built on our sustainable and innovative science.
Our proprietary iPS cell lines have played a huge role in our growth. The derivation of iPS cells is well established in the human field and is currently used for drug screening tools or novel cell therapies. For a market projected to reach $1.8 billion by 2023, the challenge has been to transfer this technology into companion and farm animal applications. At Roslin Tech, we have successfully developed iPS cell lines from pigs and dogs and are in development with iPS cell lines for other species including cows and lobster. Our innovative method to generate iPS cells ensures that they can grow indefinitely, whilst still retaining the capacity to differentiate into every kind of cell type.
We are looking forward to finding out more about the talent and innovation across the Scottish life science sector on Wednesday. Good luck to all the finalists!
